Happy Community Premiere Date! (Except Not Really)

Today, October 19th 2012, is supposed to be the date that 'Community' premieres. We should all be settling down on our couches to watch that crazy community college gang. Except after announcing that release date NBC decided that, um, they didn't really want to premiere 'Community' on October 19th. Maybe because '30 Rock' is ending, maybe because 'Up All Night' may or may not be cancelled, maybe because they don't really know what they want anyway. Who knows. Apparently the cast of 'Community' is just as confused as we are:

Community Returns!

'Community', the show which led to the "six seasons and a movie" campaign after it was put on hiatus last year, is returning tonight.

Despite critical acclaim and pop culture success, 'Community' has never been a ratings star. However, the long hiatus may have helped the show. Before the 'Community' hiatus, and its fans' panicked reactions about potential cancellation, the show was popular amongst a niche group of people. Lots of everyday Americans didn't know it existed. But then the show went on hiatus. And Facebook groups were formed in protest, people tweeted their chagrin, and some even went so far as to wear little fake mustaches (it's a long story). There were protests in front of NBC's Rockefeller headquarters, and mentions of the show on 'The Soup' (which is hosted by 'Community' cast-member Joel McHale).

'Community' focuses on the lives of a misfit group of friends who all attend a community college.

Jeff Winger (Joel McHale) lost his license to practice law because the Bar found out his degree was from Columbia (the country, not the university).

Britta (Gillian Jacobs) is a former activist, and secretly dated Jeff throughout the second season. She often offends people with her outspoken statements. She has recently decided that she wants to become a therapist, a decision that everyone else in the group is very hesitant about.

Annie (Alison Brie), a high-strung, intelligent student who was disgraced at her last school because of her addiction to Adderall. Although Annie was originally romantically paired with Troy, more recently there have been suggestions that she may end up with the older, and significantly more mature, Jeff.

Speaking of Troy (Donald Glover), he attended high school with Annie, but he didn't associate with her there because he was a big-shot football player. His friendship with Abed is an important facet of the show.

Abed (Danny Pudi) is an awkward pop-culture nerd who almost definitely has Aspergers. He enjoys making meta references, which often serve as a spin-off point for some of the show's most interesting episodes. Abed is Palestinian/Polish-American.

Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) attempts to serve as the moral and religious compass of the group. She is mother to three children, including a recent baby who was involved in a paternity scandal. Shirley has now reunited with her husband. She is African-American, and the second-oldest member of the group.

Ben Chang (Ken Jeong) first supervised the group as their Spanish teacher. However, he was disgraced at at the end of season one, when everyone learned that he didn't speak Spanish. For a brief amount of time, it is suspected that he is the father of Shirley's baby. Chang is despised by everyone in the group, although he often asks to join. Each time he is turned down he breaks the fourth-wall, and suggests that he will be the ultimate downfall of the whole group.

Pierce Hawthrone (Chevy Chase) often makes racist comments about Abed and Shirley. He is the oldest member of the group, but also one of the least mature. Pierce is incredibly wealthy, because his father was the founder of Hawthorne Wipes, a moist towelette company.

The group often has visits from the Dean, Craig Pelton (Jim Rash). He loves to dress up in outrageous costumes, and often hosts ridiculous events at the school. He has a not-so-secret crush on Jeff.

'Community' will begin airing again tonight (3/15/12) at its original time slot, 7/8C on NBC. If there are enough viewers, NBC will probably renew the show for a third season: so watch it!

'Community' Hiatus is Over!

We can all breathe a sigh of relief, this has been a good month for television.

Not only is my beloved 'Cougar Town'* back on the air, and ‘Bones’ finally has a release date, but now ‘Community’ is coming back too. February really has been a great month.

When is ‘Community’ back? March 15th, 2012.

Catch 'Community' Thursdays at 8/7C on NBC.

Thank goodness we're not called 'Cougar Town'

* Bad show, good title, yada yada yada. Watch 'Cougar Town' on Tuesdays at 8:30/7:30C on ABC.

Remember 'Cougar Town'?

'Cougar Town' is coming back!

At some point.

Paul Lee, ABC's President, promises it's true.

Is it sad that I'm almost as excited about this as Abed will be?
(Yeah, it probably is)

Now, if only NBC would bring back 'Community'. Right now.
(How else am I supposed to know what Abed thinks?)

They're back!

I hate mid-season hiatuses. Really, truly hate them. Mainly because each network seems to abide by a slightly different schedule, and that makes it almost impossible to keep track of when new episodes are airing.

Luckily, I know one thing:

Tonight there are all new episodes of 'Community', 'Parks and Rec', 'The Office', and 'Bones' (and 'Whitney' too, but that's barely worth mentioning). Thank you NBC and FOX! Other channels are airing repeats.

On 'Community' (NBC, 8/7C) it's an episode that's all about Foosball and lying. Sounds like a great combination to me.

Next is 'Parks and Rec' (NBC, 8:30/7:30C) where Leslie goes on trial--my guess is it has something to do with that kissing that happened with Ben last week.

Wrapping up Thursday's comedy line-up is 'The Office' (NBC, 9/8C) which is introducing Maura Tierney as a minor supporting character, in the role of Robert California's wife. I've loved Tierney ever since I first saw 'NewsRadio' so I'm super excited about her return to comedy.

Since I think 'Bones' works best when as little is known about the episode as possible (and I haven't seen it, so I don't want to ruin it for myself by reading an episode description or spoilers) suffice to say that it will probably deal more with Brennan's pregnancy, that pesky house Booth and Brennan are trying to agree on, and a murder. Definitely a murder.
please, please watch this show

Halloween!!

I love Fall. Pumpkins, foliage, apple cider. I also love watching my favorite shows celebrate holidays.

Typically the special holiday episodes kick-off around Halloween, and then continue with Thanksgiving and Christmas. I have a post coming that lists my favorite holiday-themed episodes of all time, but first lets talk about this week's Halloween episodes:

1. Halloween festivities kick-off on Tuesday (Oct 25) with 'The Biggest Loser'. There's (obviously) a candy challenge, and a haunted maze. Tuesday, 8 pm, NBC.

2. Join 'The Middle' on Wednesday for Halloween pranks, costumes, and teen general awkwardness. Wednesday, 8 pm, ABC.

3. 'Suburgatory' follows 'The Middle' with yet another Halloween-themed episode. Wednesday, 8:30 pm, ABC.

4. 'Community' is new again this week, and it's bound to be a challenge as the writers try to outdo last year's zombie-themed episode. Sociopaths, anyone? Thursday, 8 pm, NBC.

5. 'Parks and Recreation' is also new, and promises spooky laughs at April and Andy's Halloween bash. Thursday, 8:30 pm, NBC.

6. Continuing NBC's line-up of Halloween-themed episodes is 'The Office'. I can't be the only one who is waiting impatiently to see whether Erin is capable of throwing a Halloween party. Thursday, 9 pm, NBC.

7. This isn't really Halloween-themed, but it does have monsters: 'Grimm' premieres on Friday. Friday, 9 pm, NBC.

Wait, 'Charlie's Angels' is still here? And 'Community' and 'Parks and Recreation' have reruns tonight?!

I just looked at a TV listing for tonight and had a double-take moment when I saw 'Charlie's Angels' was on. I truly thought that had already been canceled. That doesn't bode well for them...do people even know it's still on the air?

Further ruining tonight's television viewing plans...both 'Community' and 'Parks and Rec' have reruns tonight. Boy, this week has been horrible: no 'New Girl', no 'Glee', no 'Community', AND no 'Parks and Rec'. Are the networks attempting to drain all the comedy out of our lives?

Thursday, September 22, 2011

What's new on TV tonight?

Premieres of 'Community', 'Parks & Rec', and 'The Office' start on NBC tonight at 8 pm. After 'The Office' catch the premiere of 'Whitney'.

Also, 'Grey's Anatomy' is two hours long starting at 9 pm on ABC.

And 'The Big Bang Theory' returns to CBS at 8 pm.

Returning shows (in order of release):

'Glee'
When? Wednesday, Sept 21st at 8 pm
Where? FOX
What? High school Glee club, made up of a bunch of ostracized misfits and popular Cheerleaders, sing and compete and date and break-up.

'Community'

Where? NBC
What? A hilarious half-hour show about a study group at a quirky community college. Plus, Joel McHale.

'Desperate Housewives'
When? Sunday, Sept 25th at 9 pm

What? Focuses on the crazy, crazy lives of a bunch of housewives and their families in a fictional suburb. Frankly, I'm a little shocked this is still on the air.

'Dexter'
When? Sunday, Oct 2nd at 9 pm
Where? Showtime
What? A serial killer who actually works for the police, and only kills bad guys. You need to be caught up on all the older seasons or you'll have no idea what's happening.

Where? CBS
What? Two broke girls, who waitress and nanny. I think it's a comedy.

'New Girl'
When? Tuesday, Sept 20th at 9 pm
Where? FOX
What? Zooey Deschanel (little sis to the star of FOX's hit show, 'Bones') finally has her own show. Basically, she plays an awkward girl who moves in with three guys. Based on the previews, this will either be really funny or really obnoxious.

'Unforgettable'
When? Tuesday, Sept 20th at 10 pm
Where? CBS
What? Poppy Montgomery (of 'Without at Trace' fame) finally gets her own show. What a shock that it's another crime ridden one! She tries to solve the murder of her sister, who was killed when they were children. Oh, and she has the uncanny ability to remember everything (except the murder of her sister).

'Revenge'
When? Wednesday, Sept 21st at 10 pm
Where? ABC
What? A girl wants revenge on the people she believes are responsible for destroying her family. Basically, ABC attempts to use Emily VanCamp in a new show now that they canceled her old one ('Brothers and Sisters').

When? Tuesday, Sept 22nd at 8 pm
Where? ABC
What? Modern remake of...'Charlie's Angels'

'Pan Am'
When? Sunday, Sept 25th at 10 pm
Where? ABC
What? Trying to grab some of the fans of 'Mad Men', this show revolves around the lives of beautiful Pan Am stewardesses. Back when they were called 'stewardesses'.

'The Playboy Club'
When? Sunday, Sept 25th at 10 pm
Where? NBC
What? This show revolves around the lives of hot Playboy bunnies, and their love interests/sleazy criminal interactions. Back when Playboy bunnies...never-mind.

'Hart of Dixie'
When? Monday, Sept 26th at 9 pm
Where? CW
What? Big city female surgeon gets sent to small Southern town. If you can buy Rachel Bilson as a surgeon (I said IF!) then you might buy into this show.

'Community' Release Date Plus Promo Video

And the time for promo videos continues! I'm a little disappointed that 'Parks and Recreation' hasn't released any videos yet (get with the season, NBC.) but I'll settle for the newly released 'Community' clip instead. At least it proves that NBC is trying, kinda.

'Community' returns to NBC on Thursday, September 22nd.

Loosely related: how does everyone feel about John Goodman's switch from 'Damages' to 'Community'. Good move? Bad move? Impartial? (IMDB-him)

premiere dates for 'community' & 'parks & rec'

NBC has officially announced when the 2011-2012 seasons of 'Community' and 'Parks and Rec' will be...

Thursday, September 22nd

'Community' at 8 pm

'Parks & Rec' at 8:30 pm

Unfortunately '30 Rock' joins 'Bones' with a mid-season release date due to Tina Fey's pregnancy. She's due in September. (Of course the stars of all of my favorite shows had to get pregnant at the same time!)
