'Cheer Perfection' is Coming to TLC

Cheerleading is coming to TLC! No, not a taped competition, but rather a special about the cutthroat world of children's cheerleading.

Sound oddly familiar? It should. The show is set up with a format that is almost identical to Lifetime's very successful show, 'Dance Moms'. After all, no one owns the petty mom/competitive kid arena.

TLC is clearly hoping to be as successful as 'Dance Moms', and maybe steal some of Lifetime's viewers while they're at it.

The existance of the new cheerleading show, 'Cheer Perfection', is particuarly interesting considering the barb that was thrown early on during 'Dance Moms'. When someone pointed out similaries between 'Toddlers & Tiaras' and 'Dance Moms', the mothers stated in an interview that at least their kids were "talented".

The coach in 'Cheer Perfection' is none other than Alisha Dunlap, whose daughter appeared on an episode of 'Toddlers & Tiaras'. Perhaps part of the reason she agreed to be in 'Cheer Perfection' is because she's trying to prove to those mothers on 'Dance Moms' that her pageant child actually is talented. Not just in pageants, but on the gym floor. Or maybe she just wants to extend her fifteen minutes of fame. You know what, I'd go with the latter.

Regardless, expect crazy routines and gymanstics from these kids too. And if they're trying to one-up each other, when's the last time you saw the kids on 'Dance Moms' do basket tosses?

I'm a super happy cheerleader.
'Cheer Perfection' premieres Wednesday, July 11th at 10/9C on TLC.

    1. You're right, for the next two weeks (7/18 and 7/25) TLC will air 'Toddlers & Tiaras' followed by 'The Virgin Diaries'. Originally ordered as only a special, it's unclear whether TLC is planning on turning 'Cheer Perfection' into a series.

  5. I was extremely disapointed with the special. I thought it would give a realistic view inside the world I share with thousands of other competitive cheerleaders. So many people have no idea that it's different than school spirit leading, but after watching this show, people are going to be thinking that it's worse! Yes, we wear bows and make up at to our 6-10 competitions a year, but we are normal kids who just love the thrill of tumbling, flying high in the air, and pushing ourselves to be the best. We work very hard and still have lots of fun in the process. For many, cheer has become not only their sport, but their passion, just like other athletes who love swimming, or basketball, or softball. At my gym, parents are supportive and until the last ten minutes of practice are not even allowed to watch (they usually choose to check their emails, read magazines, or chat with friends). I've never seen a parent walk onto the floor, unless they are picking up their kid after practice is over. We can flip like gymnasts and so much of what we do is truly impressive. In short, we are nothing like what the show portrayed. I have never even heard of that gym before, but the coach is a disgrace to the cheerleading world (many of the girls were doing skills that they were not ready for, and let's not talk about the cruel treatment of the kids), the girls were too young and not talented enough to be featured, and the moms were ridiculous and should be ashamed of how they act. I was appalled and dismayed when watching the show. If you want to see real talent and coaches who take their job seriously at training ATHLETES, look up Worldcup All Stars, Cheer Extreme Allstars, Top Gun All Stars, California All Stars, Stingrays All Stars, and Cheer Athletics on youtube. They produce some of the best level five teams in the country. You won't be disappointed watching these teams :)
